On Tuesday 19th March we hosted an afternoon of bowls for the Waverley Probus Club. Many members had never bowled before, so this was a new experience. Metung Club members provided some tuition and guidance and a fun game ensued. The game was followed by an afternoon tea of fresh scones and cake before a lighthearted presentation to the winners took place.
It certainly wasn’t Summer weather for our Bancroft Mixed Fours tournament on the last day of January, with a cloudy day and strong, chilly wind, but that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.
We had a good turnout on the day and everyone enjoyed some good play.
A delicious light lunch and yummy, home made sponges to accompany their afternoon tea.

Those who didn’t have a win on the green still had plenty of options of taking something home with a number of raffle prizes available.
As well as congratulating all our winners, we would like to thank the Club members whose efforts made this a great day, as well as the members from the other clubs in the East Gippsland Region who joined us on the day to make it such a success.
Barefoot Bowls was held again this year, enabling people of all ages to experience and enjoy a fun game of bowls.
As per usual the younger participants took to the challenge with relish. Whilst some played others preferred the role of onlookers. The fun was followed by a sausage sizzle & salad and, later, a raffle with the tickets being drawn, in turn, by an eager group of kids.
As Christmas 2018 approaches the members of Metung Bowls Club came together to celebrate on 5th December.
With a number of new members it was a great way to get to know each other.
We had a lovely meal, catered for by Maffra Spit Roasts.
The meal was followed by some presentations. Ken Warner was presented with his Veteran’s Badge.
Nan Kelsey, Judi Banks, Bernie Attard & Ken Warner were presented with 8 shot badges, earned during a tournament earlier this year.
Entertainment was provided by our president Peter Attard, who conducted a session of very tricky trivia questions.
Everyone who got an answer correct was awarded a chocolate and the person with the most chocolates at the end won a bottle of very nice bubbly.
Mild temperatures, a gentle breeze and a sunny day. We couldn’t have asked for better weather for our Mixed Fours Invitational on the 29th November. The day was sponsored by Gippsland Grain Store, with a smaller contribution from local State Member Tim Bull, and the major raffle prize donated by Fermio Garden Supplies.
With 12 teams playing the green was fully occupied and the challenge was on. The atmosphere was cheerful with all players enjoying their day and, with two games to be played, there were two opportunities to achieve a win. (Unfortunately the photographer – who was also playing – completely forgot to take her camera so there are no photos of the play to post.)
Between the games an enjoyable lunch of chicken & mango salad was served with a special dressing known only to our wonderful catering manager, Pauline Clearson. This was followed by a delicious dessert of either individual lemon meringue pies or vanilla & chocolate layered mousse topped with cream & strawberries.
After the games the players relaxed with an afternoon tea of slices and other treats whilst the presentations were made and the raffle was drawn.
With four raffle prizes there was a good chance that players would get a prize.
Then came the presentations for the winning teams.
The First game winners, from Bruthen Bowls Club, were Steve Colbeck, Greg Blair, Greg ? & Mal McPherson.
The second game winners were the team from Orbost Bowls Club.
The overall Runners-Up were were Hugh Mack who was visiting from Glasgow, Scotland, Ernie Banks, Janette Fraser & Judi Banks, all from Metung Bowls Club.
Our overall Winners on the day were also from Metung. They were Alex Dunbar, Peter Attard, Ken & Cheryl Warner.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone who participated to make this the great day it was.
We are very proud to be able to announce that our Vice President, Dorothy Schroeder, who was nominated by the Club for the East Gippsland Bowls Division “Volunteer of the Year”, not only won for our Division but has also been selected as Volunteer of the Year for the Gippsland Region.
Dorothy was unaware of her nomination and was surprised and thrilled to receive her well deserved award, having worked tirelessly for the members of our club for a number of years. Dorothy will be a guest of Bowls Vic at a function in Melbourne later in the year where Bowls Vic will announce the Volunteer of the Year for the State of Victoria.
Congratulations, Dorothy, from all of us at the Metung Bowls Club.
